1.

Japanese in Hongkong Celebrate War Anniversary: On the 8th of

December the 5,000 Japanese in Hongkong celebrated the second anniversary of the Pacific war. Chinese as well as other nationalities participated in the ceremonies and. from morning till night people crowded round the donation stands to offer money for the war consolation fund for the troops, the aeroplane funds, etc. (Hongkong in Cantonese, December 11th, 1130 GMT, 31.68 m.)

2. Statement by Aw Boon Haw on War Anniversary: In a speech given

on the occasion

of the second anniversary of the war Aw Boon Haw expressed deep sympathy with the reconstruction of Hongkong, stating that he knew how terrible it was to be under the rule of the invaders, and that he wished to sacrifice everything to help in the reconstruction of the island for the benefit of the Chinese people there. 3. Amnesty Granted to Violators of Military Law: The Government-

General of

Hongkong has announced that an amnesty will be granted to violators of military law on the second anniversary of the outbreak of war. The amnesty will be applicable to those convicted by the military court and the court of justice, depending upon their behaviour following their sentences. I.I.L.: Training Institute for Indian Volunteers: The Hongkong

branch of

the Indian Independence League opened a new training institute for Indian volunteers at Kowloon on December 18th. The first group of students are to undergo rigorous training and will leave for Singapore in the near future to join the Indian National Army. (Domei in English, December 17th).

5. Second Anniversary of Capture of Hongkong Observed: The second

anniver- sary of the capture of Hongkong was observed in Hongkong on December 25th with ceremonies attended by prominent Government officials and Japanese and Chinese civilians. A photographic exhibition was also held and the celebrations included wrestling ratches and special Redio progrenines. The Hongkong branch of the Indian Independence League hell a mass meeting and paraded through the streets. (Domei in English, Decer.bur 25th; Tokyo in Japanese, December 26th, 0100 GMT, 25.37 m.)

Commencement Ceremony for Sixth Term Gendarmerie Cadets:
